Project overview

Cross River Rail is a new 10.2 kilometre rail line from Dutton Park to Bowen Hills, which includes 5.9 kilometres of twin tunnels under the Brisbane River and the CBD.

The project will unlock the bottleneck at the core of the rail network and it will transform the way we travel across the whole of South East Queensland.

Queensland Rail has a critical role to play in helping the Queensland Government deliver this game-changing infrastructure for our rail network and our customers. We are working closely with the Cross River Rail Delivery Authority to ensure the successful integration of Cross River Rail with the existing rail network.

The project will deliver:

Cross River Rail's high-capacity stations will revitalise multiple inner-city precincts and enable a rejuvenated rail network across the whole of South East Queensland.

Cross River Rail will provide access by rail for the first time to Albert Street in the CBD, as well as The Gabba stadium, and year-round access to the RNA Showgrounds precinct.

At Roma Street, a new underground station will be the catalyst for significant revitalisation of the wider precinct, including the proposed Brisbane Live project, a new 18,000 seat entertainment arena.

Services on the Beenleigh, Gold Coast, Redcliffe Peninsula, Caboolture and Sunshine Coast lines are expected to directly operate through Cross River Rail.
