Burpengary station accessibility upgrade

Burpengary station concept design (subject to change)

Queensland Rail is upgrading Burpengary station to improve accessibility and make it easier and safer for customers to travel on our network.

These works are part of Queensland Rail's Station Accessibility Upgrade Program which focuses on upgrading station infrastructure to provide easier access to the public transport system.

The Burpengary station accessibility upgrade will deliver an improved station and facilities that provide a service that is accessible, easy to get to, and easy to use. These improvements enable all customers to access the train, station and platforms via paths, ramps or lifts, without the need to use stairs.

Key features of the upgrade include:

  • a new footbridge with lift access
  • improved accessible parking
  • full length high-level platforms
  • upgraded hearing augmentation loops and tactile ground surface indicators
  • upgraded security cameras and lighting
  • new wayfinding and platform signage
  • new station office and facilities.

Project update

Hutchinson Builders was recently appointed to deliver the Burpengary station upgrade with main construction expected to start in August.
Hutchinson Builders has worked with Queensland Rail to deliver the Platform 1 upgrade at South Bank station and the East Ipswich station upgrade.

Early works to support this upgrade, including the relocation of overhead line infrastructure, took place earlier this year and late last year.

Community consultation also helped inform the detailed design for this upgrade.

Upcoming works

Customers and the local community can expect to see the following activities over the coming weeks (see map on next page for locations):
  • Installation of test ground screws to anchor foundations in the eastern and western carparks between 6am and 6pm from Friday 9 June to Friday 15 June
  • Minor foundation works between 6am and 6pm on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 June
